Rohrbach Brewing company, Rochester Creative Spotlight

ROCHESTER’S FIRST CRAFT BREWERY

Established in 1991 by John and Patty Urlaub, the inception of Rohrbach Brewing Co. marked the genesis of craft brewing in Rochester, NY. Drawing inspiration from the quaint town of Rohrbach in Germany, the company bears a name that echoes the origins of its founder's vision for introducing craft beer to Rochester. The initial seed was sown within the German House on Gregory Street, a humble beginning that burgeoned into the two vibrant restaurant locations that grace the city today – the downtown brewery and beer hall on Railroad St. and the Buffalo Road Brewpub Restaurant nestled in Gates.

Despite a quarter-century of growth, Rohrbach Brewing Co. has remained firmly rooted in its essence. The journey from the early days of growler fills to the present-day regular can releases has been a thrilling trajectory, tracing the evolution from its inception to the recent surge in craft beer appreciation. Throughout this remarkable journey, Rohrbachs has been unwavering in its commitment to authenticity.

Today, the influence of Rohrbach's craft extends beyond its origins. Whether it's in stores, restaurants, bars, or sports arenas, Rohrbach's distinctive brews have spread their wings throughout the regions of Rochester, Buffalo, Syracuse, and the surrounding areas of Upstate NY, making its mark as a pioneer in the craft brewing landscape.
