Three Heads Brewing, Rochester Creative Spotlight
The inception of Three Heads Brewing is steeped in a blend of beers, melodies, sports, and spirited foosball battles. Born from the heart of a Brighton neighborhood in the early 2000s, the origins of this journey are rich with camaraderie and shared passions.
At the helm stands Dan Nothnagle, whose quest over the past two decades has been to savor exceptional brews from around the globe. Dan's enthusiasm led him to share his collection of brews with his close-knit circle of friends: Todd Dirrigl, Brian Johnson, and Geoff Dale. As they sampled beers from the West Coast, a distinct allure captured their senses. The realization dawned that the Rochester area lacked beers of comparable distinction, igniting the spark of an ambitious idea – the birth of a brewery.
Determined to make their vision a reality, the group embarked on a journey of mastering the art of brewing. With Todd's basement and kitchen as their laboratory, they began their experimentation in home brewing. Swiftly, their skills flourished. Within just a few months, they were crafting exceptional homebrews that stood their ground.
In a daring move, they submitted five of their creations to a local competition, reaping the rewards of 3 gold medals and 1 bronze medal. Encouraged by this success, they entered more competitions, achieving similar acclaim. The pinnacle of their triumph was seizing the "Best of Show" award among 420 entries at the Amber Waves of Grain competition in Buffalo.
The realization dawned – the time had come for the next chapter. Building a brewery from scratch, coupled with sourcing the necessary capital, posed a formidable challenge. The prospect of finding a brewery to faithfully brew the Heads' recipes seemed like a more attainable route.
In the spring of 2010, Three Heads Brewing Inc. was officially established. After exploring various brewing avenues, the team forged a partnership with CB Craft Brewers in Honeoye Falls, renowned for their impeccable ales. In 2016, the journey led them to a new horizon – a state-of-the-art brewery at 186 Atlantic Ave in Rochester's vibrant neighborhood of the arts.
Three Heads Brewing thrives on an exquisite fusion of talent, camaraderie, and an unwavering commitment to crafting exceptional beer. Each member of the crew brings a distinct skillset and background, creating a perfect synergy. The aspiration is to continue flourishing, all the while crafting beers that delight and captivate.
